Story
Michael Flexig
Singer · Composer · Producer
For Michael Flexig, music has never been just a sequence of songs or stages. It has always been a search for melody, identity and that rare moment when a song suddenly feels inevitable. From the first bands onward, every chapter opened another door — into new sounds, new encounters and a deeper understanding of what a voice can carry. Combo Colossale, ZENO and Uli Jon Roth became landmarks along that road: different worlds, but connected by the same belief in melody, character and music with a soul of its own. The Voice of ZENO brings that journey into the present — not as nostalgia, but as a living continuation, guided by the same voice and the same instinct to follow where the music leads.
A voice from outside

When the flame became visible
The journey did not begin with Keeper of the Flame. In many ways, it had always been there — in the voice, in the melodies, and in the musical world that had shaped Michael for decades.
Long before it had a public name, it already existed as an inner continuity: a way of singing, writing and carrying a certain spirit forward.
But in 2020, with Keeper of the Flame, that continuity became visible to the outside world. What had long lived beneath the surface stepped into the light for the first time.
It was not a return to the past, but the beginning of a new chapter — the moment when The Voice of ZENO became something others could finally see and hear.
A wider horizon
Michael Flexig & Uli Jon Roth
Uli Jon Roth
Working with Uli Jon Roth opened another door — into a musical world where rock, melody and classical colour could exist without compromise.
The encounter was not about crossing genres for effect. It was about discovering how naturally those worlds could belong together when the music itself demanded it.
For Michael, that sense of scale and freedom became part of a wider musical horizon: power and beauty, virtuosity and expression, with melody always at the centre.
It would remain one of the defining encounters on the road — not a detour, but another piece of the musical language that continued to grow.
A musical home
Zeno
ZENO became more than a band chapter. It was a musical home — shaped by Jochen Zeno Roth’s vision and by a shared belief that melody could carry both power and beauty.
For Michael, those songs became a place where his voice could fully belong: high, emotional and unmistakably melodic, yet always serving the music rather than standing above it.
That connection reached far beyond a particular time or record. The sound, the songs and the spirit of ZENO became part of the musical language he would continue to carry with him.
Years later, that line would lead naturally toward The Voice of ZENO — not as imitation or nostalgia, but as a living continuation of something that had become part of who he was.
The first leap
Combo Colossale
Before the international stages came the first real leap: Combo Colossale. It was where ambition began turning into experience — and where a life in music started to become something tangible.
The band brought songs, stage and identity together at a moment when everything still felt open. It was an early lesson in what a voice can become when it belongs to a larger sound.
Puppen weinen nicht, released in 1982, still carries the energy of that chapter: direct, distinctive and unmistakably of its time.
What came later would move into very different musical worlds, but the essential step had already been taken. The road was no longer imagined. It had begun.
